Cebu Football Tournament: NCR and Convergys Emerge as ECCP Football Cup Champions

NCR and Convergys emerge victorious in the 5th ECCP Soccer Cup last 15th of May 2011 at the Cebu International School Football field.

NCR proved to be the undefeated champion as they reclaimed their 2nd consecutive Championship in the Men’s Division, crushing last year’s 2nd runner up Lear with a 1-0 score courtesy of NCR’s Limhar Baunsit. 2008 ECCP Soccer Cup Champions Teletech came in third place with a 1-0 score against Accenture.

Convergys Ladies bested Lear-Opinionolgy-Lexmark and Wipro Ladies after garnering the highest points from the round-robin games, scoring 3-0 in their first match with strikes from Goring Donayre and Karen Oreiro and an own goal from Wipro.

Rene Borromeo Jr. of NCR and Goring Donayre of Convergys were recognized as Most Valuable Players of this Cebu Football tournament by their respective teams.

The ECCP Soccer Cup is an annual inter-company 7-aside Football Festival organized by the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines. 19 Mens teams and 3 Ladies teams from the IT-BPO, Hotel and Tourism and Manufacturing sectors participated. It is co-presented by Greenworld LED Solutions and Nature Valley Crunchy Granola Bar and brought to you by Red Tag, Italkarat 18 and Sedona Parc.

The long awaited Cebu Football Tournament is finally here. The 5th ECCP Soccer Cup is happening tomorrow, May 15, 2011. Cebu Football Tournament - Repeat Performance

Crazy Horse closed out a perfect season to win the Men’s League title in the 13th Aboitiz Football Cup at the Aboitiz Sports Field yesterday.

The back-to-back Men’s League winners finished the Cebu football tournament with 24 points on eight wins, after closing out with a 3-2 thriller over second-place University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF).

The match was just a formality as Crazy Horse was up by six points to USPF before it started but even though Crazy Horse knew that the title was already in the bag, it still played a very competitive game with USPF under the sweltering heat of the afternoon sun.

USPF had the early advantage as Joseph Rodriguez scored a quick goal in the sixth minute. However, Ariel Cahilig answered with strike of his own six minutes later.

Japanese Mitsuo Tsunakiri gave Crazy Horse the lead, 2-1, in the 18th, before Rodriguez struck again with a breakaway goal in the 51st to level the match anew.

However, Julius Acre spoiled Rodriguez’s remarkable performance by snatching the game with a goal in the waning minutes of the match.

For winning the Men’s League title, Crazy Horse will represent Cebu City in next month’s Smart National Clubs Championships, a tournament for the best football clubs in the country.

Meanwhile, Don Bosco Technology (DBTC) Center took home the Boys’ 17 division title; Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu won the Girls’ 17 and 14 titles; MTI bagged the Boys’ 14 class; and Paref-Springdale won the Boys’ 12 crown.

Cebu Football News: CFA kicks off program in Catmon

The Cebu Football Association, led by president Richard Montayre, travelled all the way to the Northern town last Friday to held a coaches’ and referees’ seminar to help Catmon form its own football club.

Fifteen coaches and three referees joined the two-day seminar.

“They were very enthusiastic and since most of them will be starting from zero, they even wanted us to go back there three times a month to check on how they are doing,” Montayre said.

Eleazer Toledo handled the coaching seminar while Eugene Yclino III took care of the referee’s seminar.

He said the CFA will try to see if they can send a coach regularly to Catmon to help oversee the formation of the club.

The Catmon trip is part of CFA’s Asian Football Confederation Vision Asia project, where they will be touring different municipalities in Cebu to help establish football clubs. The clubs, in turn, will compete in the planned Governor’s Cup this summer.

Montayre said Catmon will be forming three age-group teams—the 10-Under, 12-Under and 14-Under. These categories will be included in the Governor’s Cup.

He said Catmon already has a Cebu football field that is suitable for age group football.

The CFA will next visit Toledo and Balaman in Southern Cebu next month and Liloan or Danao in Northern Cebu next month but there is no definite date yet.

“We still have to communicate with them regarding their available schedule and date,” he said.

Aside from that, the CFA is also set to meet Gov. Gwen Garcia to present their proposed tournament this summer.

“We will try and schedule to meet the governor within the week or next week,” he said.

Aside from the Governor’s Cup, the CFA has two other huge tournaments, the Treadtel Cup and the CFA Cup later this year.

The Treadtel Cup will be a festival type of tournament while the Cebu Football Association Cup will be a big tournament that will feature the Players 10 to Men’s Open.

Meanwhile, Montayre will meet with the other members of the Philippine Football Federation Board of Governors for their first quarterly meeting this Saturday.

“We have a lot to tackle in our agenda. We will discuss some policies and assignments,” said Montayre.

Cebu Football Tournament: 11 National Interclub Football Set

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Amateur Football Club (CAFC) through its president Glenn T. Quisido is inviting all teams or clubs to join the 11th National Inter-Club Football Club scheduled to be held from May 21 to 29 at three different venues - University of San Carlos-Technological Center in Brgy. Talamban, San Roque Parish field in Brgy. Subangdaku, Mandaue City and PAREF-Springdale in Brgy. Lahug.

"We are inviting different football clubs/teams all over the country to showcase their skills and talents. This annual event is considered as one of the biggest soccer tournaments outside of Manila," relayed Quisido via e-mail sent to different media outlets.

The week-long competition features the men's open division, 40-above, boys/girls 17, boys 14 and boys 12 following the 11-aside format. There will also be a players 10 category, mix boys and girls for a 9-aside system of play.

For out-of-towners, Quisido said CAFC will provide free accommodation and internal transportation upon confirmation of their entries.

Each team shall be composed of 25 players, two officials and one officiating official for all categories except the players 10 which shall have a maximum of 18 players only with two officials and one officiating official.

Exciting cash prizes are up for grabs, with the champion in the men's open taking home P30,000 plus medals and trophy.

The top performer in the 40-above will pocket P10,000, medals and trophies will be given away to all age-group category winners.

To take up important matters and other concerns relative to the Cebu Football tournament, CAFC is calling for a coaches meeting on April 16 at Jollibee-Raintree Mall outlet.

Registration fee is pegged at P5,000 for the men's open and 40-above, while age-group entries will be assessed with P1,000 per team.

Cebu Football Tournament: 210 squads enlist for Thirsty Football Cup

All divisions will follow the 7-a-side format with 15 minutes per match expect for the players 6, 8 and 10 which will follow the 5-a-side format with 12 minutes to play per game. All teams in each division will be divided into brackets.

For divisions which have one bracket only, eliminations will follow a single round robin with the top two teams contesting the division title. Divisions with more than one bracket will have a single round per bracket.

All participating teams are advised to be in the playing venue before the first game of the day even if their match is scheduled later in the day since organizers may adjust schedules as the need arises. /CORRESPONDENT MARS G. ALISON

Cebu Football News: Sinulog Football Cup adds 2 divisions

ORGANIZERS of the Sinulog Football Festival weren’t expecting much when they decided to hold their event this weekend but got surprised after getting a lot of inquiries from interested Cebu football teams.

Organizer Francis Ramirez admitted the 1st Sinulog Football Festival is just a test event, and whether it will be held next year or not will depend on this year’s success.

“This was just a test, but a lot of Cebu Football teams have inquired about the event,” Ramirez said in an interview with Sun.Star Cebu.

The two divisions added are the Ladies Open and Inter BPO Men’s categories. The other divisions are the Players 8 and 10, Boys 12, 14 and 17, Girls 17, Men’s Open and 38 and above.

“A lot of teams said they want to join, especially in the Ladies Open, that’s why we added new divisions,” he said.

The Ladies Open division has six Cebu Football teams.

Cebu Football News: Sinulog holds 1st football

WITH the popularity of football in the country skyrocketing because of the recent success of the Philippine national men’s team, the annual Sinulog celebration of Cebu City will hold its first Cebu football tournament.

The Cebu Amateur Football Club (CAFC) with the Sinulog Foundation, Inc. and the Cebu City Government will launch the 1st Sinulog Football Festival on Jan. 8 and 9 at the University of San Carlos-Technology Center football pitch.

The two-day festival will have eight divisions—Players 8, Players 10, Boys 12, Boys 14, Boys 17, Girls 17, Men’s Open and 38-and-above—which will be contested by some of the best clubs and schools in Cebu.

“We’re expecting local teams (to join the tournament) and limit it to just 100 teams,” said organizer Francis Ramirez, the coach of Abellana National School football squad, a press conference at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC).

Interested squads may register at the CCSC or contact the CAFC through Ramirez or Frederick Alazas with the following mobile phone numbers—0923-4541353, 0927-7532555 and 09293489009.

Aside from the Cebu football tournament, there will also be a Sinulog Fun Run and a softball tournament.

CCSC manager Ricky Ballesteros promised that next year’s Sinulog sports events will be much bigger.

“Next year, we will make it bigger with more sports tournaments,” he said.

Cebu Football Tournament: No Lapu Lapu Fiesta Futsal Tournament

There were rumors of an upcoming Cebu Football tournament this weekend, the Lapu Lapu Fiesta Futsal Tournament. This tournament was reportedly to be organized by Manfred Schuwerk of FC Inter Cebu and Lapu Lapu City Government. I emailed Manfred to verify and this was his response:

I am currently in Germany.
We will decide our upcoming Cebu Football tournaments after I am back in Lapu-Lapu this coming December. No tournament will be November to avoid conflicts with other fiesta events.

Cebu Football Tournament: SRFC bags 3 titles in Delos Santos Cup

THE home teams defended their turf well as San Roque FC (SRFC) wrested three championships in the 4th De Los Santos football cup at the San Roque Parish pitch over the weekend.

The SRFC squads won the Players 10, Players 14 and 38-and-above categories.

SRFC A held Villa del Rio FC (VDRFC) scoreless, 1-0, to bring home the crown of the Players 10 class and repeated over VDRFC, 2-1, to win the Boys 14 title.

SRFC Arsenal, on the other hand, beat Count FC, 1-0, in the finals match of the 38-and-above division.

University of San Carlos took the championship trophies in the Boys 17 and Girls 17 categories. USC warded off Barili FC, 3-2, in the Boys 17 finals and beat SRFC, 1-0, in the Girls 17 championship match.

In the other results, VDRFC took the title in the Boys’ 12 division after crushing St. Paul, 3-1. Inter Barkada wrested the Women’s Open title with a 1-0 victory over USC, while Count FC beat SRFC Arsenal, 4-3, to win the men’s title.

Eight teams participated in the two-day football festival.

Cebu Football Team: Springdale Legends FC

We would like to recognize another Cebu Football team - Springdale Legends FC. They ranked first during the round-robin elimination of their debut tournament, the 1st Richard & Richard Football Tournament in Tacloban, Leyte last October 30-31, 2010.

Springdale Legends FC was the only Cebu Football team who participated in that event. They lost to Einstein FC in the shoot-out in the Top Two Finals of the tournament. The team is composed of alumni and high-school players of the Paref-Springdale School in Lahug, Cebu.

Hopefully, we see more of this Cebu Football team in the upcoming tournaments like the 5th ECCP Soccer Cup.

Cebu Football News: De Los Santos Football enters fourth season

THE De Los Santos Football Cup is set to kick off this Nov . 13 at the San Roque Parish Football Field in Mandaue City.

The two-day tournament is on its fourth season, which aims to attract 80 teams.

“We initiated to have this kind of tournament to develop the grass-root level and develop more tournaments,” Lahug Football Club’s Sheba Castañares said.

He said this Cebu Football tournament used to be called the Lahug Football Festival.

However, since the football field in Lahug was not available, they changed the title to “Delos Santos” because it would be ironic to keep the name when the venue is the San Roque Field in Mandaue City.

The tournament will feature several categories, such as players 6, players 8, players
10, boys 12, boys 14, boys 17, which will be using a 7-aside format while the men’s open, inter-call center and 38 above will be using a 9-aside format.

The registration fee is pegged from P1,000 to P1,500 and the deadline will be this Thursday.

The defending champion in the men’s open is the Don Bosco College (DBC) Alumni Football team. Castañares said they hope the DBC will join this upcoming Cebu Football tournament and defend their title.

Cebu Football News: A chance to save RP football

UNLESS Mari Martinez grows a conscience (and we’d discover life in Mars), it looks like we’re going to have him as the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) president for the rest of his term.

In a recent BOG meeting attended by 10 members, there was a proposal to oust Martinez, who is no longer trusted that he’s been removed as a signatory of PFF funds.

The presidents of the Football Associations (FAs) of Iloilo, Dumaguete, Cebu, Naga and North Cotabato voted to have the proposal to oust Martinez submitted to the PFF Congress in three weeks’ time.

The presidents of the FAs of Baguio, Camarines Norte, Tagum, Tarlac and Pagadian, said, “No.”

Since it was a tie, guess who had the authority to break it?

Martinez, of course.

The same guy who, in their previous meeting, said he transferred the PFF funds from its account to another person’s for safekeeping. It’s like leaving your laptop and cell phone unattended, outside, for safekeeping.

Naturally, that safekeeping measure didn’t work and based on an audit report, P3.7 million and $44,373 of those funds are unaccounted for.

It isn’t surprising that Martinez got the support of the five Board of Governors (BOGs) (I’d like to know if these five even have a football tournament in their FAs), when the previous president faced similar moves, he released P20,000 to all FA presidents, supposedly for communication assistance.

Did Martinez pay for their support?

I don’t know. But I know this. When Richard Montayre, the Cebu Football Association president, was pestering Martinez for the AFC Vision Asia Funds, the president reportedly told him that he’ll just deposit P4,000 a month to his ATM account.

Montayre left with no money and has since spearheaded the move to oust Martinez because of his questionable handling of PFF funds.

How questionable?

You tell me.

The audit report mentioned a payment for the RP team’s tickets to Taiwan for a series of friendlies for P302,680. The audit team found out that team manager Dan Palami paid for those tickets and turned over the receipt to the PFF for reimbursement.
He didn’t get a cent.

Is Martinez misusing PFF funds?

You tell me.

Last I heard, the PFF has P40 million a year.

When was the last time we had a national tournament?

I’ve heard the PFF is going to suspend the Cebu Football Association in retaliation for what Montayre has done.

I hope Martinez does. Let this be a full-blown fight and I’ll gladly side with the CFA on this one.

Some Cebu referees, because of their disagreement with the CFA on some policies, have chosen to side with Martinez on this one.

I hope the referees won’t suffer the fate of their predecessors when they got involved with Martinez.

Memories, it seems, are short and the enemy of your enemy becomes your friend.

The last time Cebu refs got involved with Martinez, in the Laguna Cup in 2001, they came to me asking for help because they never got paid.

That is Martinez, the PFF president who can no longer be trusted that he’s been removed as signatory of the account of the very organization he heads.

The same guy, who, because of the support of those 5 BOG members, and folks like some of our local referees, will still be president until 2011.

Most of the folks here love to say they are doing what they are doing for the love of football.

Well, we had a chance to save RP football. What did you do?

Cebu Football Tournament: Stream FC wins 'Lacion' Football event

CEBU, Philippines - Stream Football Club silenced one of the early title favorites Dakay Construction, 3-0, to bag the inter-company championship of the 1st Engineer’s Fiesta Cup 2010, a Cebu football tournament held in Consolacion.

With balanced offensive and solid defensive stuff, Stream FC dominated the entire battle against Dakay Construction.

On the other hand, Hiroshi FC salvaged the 38-above crown, while the Cebu Amateur Football Club-Queen City United topped the men’s open of the 11-a-side competition after outclassing the Coast Guards.

In the men's 9-a-side, CAFC-QCU lorded it over the Count Football Club.

St. Louis School of Mandaue stole part of the limelight after stunning the San Roque Football Club, 2-0, in the boys 12 final.

St.Louis’ Cynold Retuya and Cied Betua were responsible for preventing SRFC from winning its third tile.

SRFC earlier scored a twinkill via the boys 6 and 8 categories, while Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu reigned supreme in the players 10 division. Danao Football Club dominated the boys 14 class in the one-day festival-type Cebu Football tournament spearheaded by Consolacion councilor Nilo Ferraren.

Cebu Football Tournament: Support Group sweeps 2010 Sykes FutSal Tournament

Sykes Support Group sweeps both championship titles in their first company FutSal festival. The 2010 Sykes FutSal Tournament was a Cebu Football tournament held yesterday at the CitiSports Gym, Ayala Business Center, Cebu.

Each game lasts 15 minutes with 7.5 minutes per half. A 1-minute timeout was allowed per team per half and flying substitution was enforced. There were 6 teams in the men's division (Support Group, 13S Team 1, 13S Team 2, Shield, Hand and Penguin) and 4 teams in the women's division (Support Group/Shield, 13S Team 1 aka Shompies, 13S Team 2 and 13S Team 3).

As the end of this Cebu Football tournament, Support Group won the Championship over 13S Team 1 for the men's divison while Support Group/Shield also won the Championship over 13S Team 2 for the women's division.

Cebu Football Tournament: 2010 Sykes FutSal Tournament

Sykes, a Business Process Outsourcing company who regularly fields Cebu Football players, will be hosting a one-day company Futsal festival. Dubbed as 2010 Sykes FutSal Tournament, it will be held in CitiSports Gym (near Ayala and Marriott Hotel) this Sunday, October 31, 2010.

TeleTech is a global business process outsourcing company that provides customer management, transaction-based processing, database marketing services, professional sales and eCommerce services. Teletech Football Club (TFC) was organized in July 2008 with the help of our coach Dexter Arrojado and other Cebu football enthusiasts in the site. The club currently has at least 30 active football enthusiasts that includes the ladies and men's division. In the last two years, TFC has moved to greater heights and accomplished the following awards in various Cebu Football tournaments:

One of the Involve activities featured is Sykes Asia Football Enthusiasts (S.A.F.E.) - a Cebu Football team since 2005.

Cebu Football News: Cebu football player joins RP Under-16

AFTER three Cebuanos were named in the RP team last year, another football player from Cebu City joined the national ranks this year.

Cheska Jane Toledo, the daughter of Cebuano football coach Eleazar Toledo, was recently added to the roster of the RP Under-16 Women’s squad, which is currently competing in the Asian Football Confederation Under-16 Women’s championship qualifier at the Makati University pitch from Oct. 15 to 24.

“She’s the first female Cebu football player that has joined the Philippine team in the girls’ category as far as I know,” Eleazar told Sun.Star Cebu in an interview.

“I’m very proud because my daughter’s dream came true. Her dream was to at least represent the Philippines.”

The Cebu City tryouts were held last August during the opening of the Aboitiz Football Cup at the Aboitiz Sports field, where Cheska was picked to join the national training pool.

Cheska, who turned 15 last May 4, left for Manila last Oct. 2, where she joined the other hopefuls in a closed training camp.

Cheska plays center midfielder for Subangdaku FC but according to Eleazar, she can play other positions. She is currently playing as a central defender for the national team.

Cheska discovered Cebu football from Eleazar, her mentor, when she was six. Aside from that, she’s also into other sports. She was once a gymnast and a volleyball player and has even tried athletics this year.

The Philippines lost to Guam, 2-0, in its first game but bounced back with an impressive 7-0 landslide over Timor Leste.

The Philippines will be playing Vietnam tomorrow and Singapore on Sunday.

The Round 1 of the AFC Under-16 Women’s championship qualifiers are divided into two groups, which will be staged in two different venues – Philippines (Group A) and Jordan (Group B). Group A is comprised of the Philippines, Guam, Singapore and Timor Leste while Group B is composed of India, Uzbekistan, Iran, Jordan and Bahrain.

The winners of the two groups will advance to the second round and will be joined by Thailand, Myanmar and Chinese Taipei on Dec. 3 to 12 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The teams will play in a single round robin format, where the winner will join the top five teams of last year’s tournament—Korea Republic, DPR Korea, Japan, Australia and China.

Cebu Football Team: UC stuns USJR, 1-0

THE University of Cebu Football team completed a Cinderella run as it captured its first crown in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. collegiate football tournament yesterday, dethroning defending champion University of San Jose-Recoletos, 1-0, at the drenched University of San Carlos-Technology Center pitch.

From being one of the worst teams in this Cebu Football tournament, UC, which finished the eliminations with three points, won its first title in its first attempt. In previous years, UC was always the first to be eliminated.

“I do believe that it was the preparation and discipline of the boys,” UC head coach Glenn Ramos said of his squad of mostly rookies that defeated the more talented and experienced USJ-R team. “In the last two weeks, before the semis, we really worked hard and prepared. I told them the semis are different than the eliminations, when we finished fourth.”

Right winger Kieth Jireh Arguilles scored the only goal of the match in the 73rd minute. Arguilles was in the right time at the right moment as the ball went to him after a chip shot passed through the hands of USJ-R goalkeeper Joel Cahilog, who dove into the mud for the ball.

After the goal, USJ-R got aggressive but UC’s defense and the superb goalkeeping
skills of Michael Fernandez saved UC.

“Our game plan was to focus on defense and to counterattack,” said Ramos, whose been coaching UC for over five years.

Both teams had a hard time controlling the ball because of the wet and muddy pitch,
but Ramos said UC came equipped for the worst weather conditions.

“We practiced last Tuesday and Thursday under the rain. The boys really prepared for a weather like this,” he said.

Meanwhile, the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) bagged third place over University of San Carlos (USC), 2-1, avenging a 3-0 loss in the elimination round.

USPF’s Joseph Rodriguez quickly made his presence felt with a shot in the fifth minute before USC got on board with Bernard Rotich’s goal in the 71st.

However, USC’s surge was short-lived as Rodriguez scored the winning goal in the waning seconds of the match.

Cebu Football Tournament: ANS off to hot start in Aboitiz football

THE ABELLANA National School (ANS)-Pomeroy showed that it is ready to defend its Boys 17 title after routing Blessed John 2-0 in the 13th Aboitiz Football Cup, which came off the wraps yesterday at the Aboitiz Football Field, North Reclamation Area in Mandaue City.

Earlier in the Players 10 division, last year's 1st runner-up Guiseppe Football Club did not have much luck as it lost to Subangdaku Football Club, 4-3.

Tournament director Adonis Quitoy, however, explained that yesterday's matches were just exhibitions and will not have any bearing as they have yet to finalize the game schedules within the week.

Matches will be played every weekend with all teams to enjoy the same number of games.

Most of last year's division champions have returned to this year's edition hoping to defend their titles.

Last year's champions were Don Bosco College 1 (Players 8 and 10), Don Bosco College A ( Boys 12 and 14), San Roque FC (Girls 17), ANS-Pomeroy (Boys 17), University of San Carlos (Women's Open), 53rd Army (Men's Cup) and Crazy Horse (Men's League).

This Cebu Football tournament is organized by the Aboitiz Group of Companies in partnership with the Cebu Football Association.

Cebu Football Tournament: 13th Aboitiz Cup football on today

CEBU, Philippines - The Aboitiz Football Cup, Cebu’s longest running football tournament, kicks off its 13th edition today at the Aboitiz Sports Field in Brgy. Subangdaku, Mandaue City.

Before the games proper, there will be a short opening ceremony with Aboitiz Foundation president Jon Ramon Aboitiz leading the honored guests.

This year’s edition features the players 8, 10, boys12, 17, men’s open and men’s 38-above, while the distaff side will have the girls 17 and women’s open.

Winning the title will be a lot more tougher as organizers decided to convert the event from a cup-type to league type.

Being a league-type, each team can now enjoy a regular action except in the players 8 and 10 categories, which will be playing for a 9-a-side action since they are yet too young for the 11-a-side battle. All classes, however, will enjoy as much as nine games in the elimination round.

More than the games and title, players and coaches also have something else to look forward to with the Aboitiz Foundation looking into the possibility of offering educational scholarship grants to deserving players.

Aboitiz Foundation president Jon Ramon Aboitiz is open to the idea of giving a scholarship grants to deserving athletes playing in the Aboitiz Cup since the foundation’s trust is geared toward education and values formation.

With that, the Aboitiz Cup richly deserved to be called the premiere football action in Cebu, not only for being able to help out Cebu football become more popular, but also give more inspiration to the youngsters to play well for education.

In another development, the Cebu Football Association, which is handling the Aboitiz Cup, will also be facilitating a try-out for the RP girls under-16 squad today.

Cebu Football News: Aboitiz Football Cup increases registration fee

SEVERAL changes have been introduced in this year’s 13th Aboitiz Football Cup, which will kickoff on Aug. 29 and run until February 2011 at the Aboitiz Sports Field at the North Reclamation Area in Mandaue City.

Most notable of these is the raising of the registration fee of the age-groups from P1,000 last year to P2,500 this year.

Tournament director Adonis Quitoy said that as agreed by organizers Cebu Football Association (CFA) and the Aboitiz Group of Companies, the latter will finance the tournament while the CFA will keep whatever will be earned from the registration fees.

“What we get from the registration goes to the CFA funds to be used in office operations and give support to the coaches and referees’ development, so what they give basically goes back to them,” Quitoy explained.

He added that the amount is even lesser than registration fees pegged for football festivals which only run for a few days.

Allowing the CFA to earn from the registration is also Aboitiz’s way of supporting the football body.

The other change to be effected is the format play from cup-type to league-type except in the Division 2 of the Men’s Open. This means that the team with the most number of wins will earn the division title except in cases of ties.

The tournament features players 8,10, boys 12, boys and girls’ 15 and 17, men’s 38-above, men and ladies’ open.

Instead of last year’s Men's Cup and the Men's League, there will be two divisions for the Men's Open.

The top two teams in the Men's Cup and Men's League will be playing in Division 1 while the rest of the teams will play in Division 2.

Division 1 will have the league-type format while Division 2 will have the cup-type format wherein teams will be grouped into two with the top two teams in each group advancing to the crossover semifinals.

Cebu Football Tournament: QCU nails back-to-back wins in San Roque football

CEBU, Philippines - Defending men’s open champion Queen City United opened its title retention bid with back-to-back victories in the 6th San Roque Football Cup at San Roque Football field in Subangdaku,Mandaue.

In its first assignment, QCU silenced JCAD, 1-0, under group D and a few moments later it mercilessly beat D’Barkads,7-0.

Earlier, D’Barkads had a scoreless draw with Prossimo.

On the other hand, Team Rocket enjoyed a solo leadership under group C after posting a 2-0 win-loss card.

Team Rocket pulled away with a 2-0 mark over Team Consolacion and escaped past S1 Football Club, 2-1.

The other group C action saw the University of Southern Phippines’ Alumni and Consolacion ending with a 1-all draw.

In group B, San Roque Royale United-B defeated Immaculadistas, 2-0 while SRRU’s team A enjoyed a no-sweat win over Boys Hi Alumni squad who was a no-show the other night.

A total of 21 squads are vying for gold in the men’s open, while the distaff side has five.

Cebu Football News: Scholarships for Cebu Football Players

Good news for all Cebu Football players! ABOITIZ Foundation Inc. is extending its support to local footballers from the pitch to the classroom.

Aboitiz Foundation president Jon Ramon Aboitiz said they are looking into the possibility of providing educational scholarships for players who excel in the classroom and in the game during this year’s 13th Aboitiz Football Cup.

“We will be identifying these kids who can excel both in their academics and in sports, and support them in achieving their dreams in whatever ways we can,” Aboitiz said.

The Aboitiz Cup, which started in 1997, has already produced a lot of accomplished football players like former national player Oliver Colina, who now coaches the RP Boys 14-Under team.

“The whole idea behind the Aboitiz Football Cup is the promotion of football among the youth of Cebu. This is how committed we are in supporting football in Cebu,” Aboitiz said.

The Aboitiz Foundation Inc. and the Cebu Football Association (CFA) signed a memorandum of agreement yesterday for this year’s tournament, which will start on Aug. 29 at the Aboitiz Sports Field in Mandaue City.

“I am pleased to see the growing popularity of football in Cebu. Since the Aboitiz Cup was launched, it is now Cebu’s premiere football event and the longest running age-group tournament. The Aboitiz Foundation will continue to support the AFC,” Aboitiz said.

This year, the Aboitiz Foundation increased their funding for the tournament from P690,000 to P1.1 million.

Yesterday, Aboitiz Foundation handed over the first P200,000-check to the CFA during the MOA signing. Also present yesterday were Aboitiz Foundation managing trustee Sonny Carpio, Aboitiz Equity Ventures (AEV) chief reputation officer Sebastian Lacson, AboitizLand assistant vice president for external affairs Allan Alfon, and CFA tournament director Adonis Quitoy.

Lacson said football is a sport Filipinos can excel in.

“For football to become popular, more children have to play it and for that to happen, more playing fields have to be put up all over the country,” Lacson said.

With this, Aboitiz Foundation adds motivation for Cebu Football players thereby promoting awareness and encouraging more support for this much-participated but media-unpopular sport.

Cebu Football Tournament: CAFC draws with FCIC

AN erratic Cebu Amateur Football Club (CAFC) conceded a late goal for a 1-1 draw with FC Inter Cebu (FCIC) in Day 5 of the CAFC 10th Interclub Invitational Tournament at the University of San Carlos (USC).

CAFC got the no.1 spot with eight points from four matches, while idle Doraemon is second with seven. FCIC is third with five, while USJ-R, which was to play Count FC yesterday, is fourth with four points.

The FCIC vs. CAFC draw has revived the slim hopes of USC, which is fifth with three points, of making the semifinals.

First, it has to beat FCIC today to vault to the top four with six points and hope Doraemon beats FCIC on Friday.

Yesterday, CAFC could have been up 4-0 as early as the 16th minute if not for its erratic finishing.

Arnie Pasinabo had three clear chances—twice with the keeper off balanced. But two of his shots were cleared by a defender, while a third went straight to the keeper.
Rommel Cuizon joined the act and had his shot deflected in the 16th.

Then things turned weird for CAFC.

Rene Menchavez stormed off the field and was yellow carded and midfielder Julius Acre also tried to walk off and asked to be subbed before cooler heads convinced the two to keep playing.

Menchavez made amends in the 34th with a perfectly-taken free kick for 1-0.

However, Toto Gempesaw managed to even the count just five minutes from time.

In the U17 matches, a momentary lapse cost the Sacred Heart School-Jesuits (SHS-J) dearly as it lost to Sta. Rita, 3-2, while Don Bosco College (DBC) showed no mercy to Danao FC, 15-0.

DBC now leads its group with six points, while Abellana National School is second. In the other group, SHS-J, Sta. Rita and Springdale all have three points and are separated only by goal difference.

Delbert Tan put SHS-J on top in the seventh before Nelson Ybañez leveled the count in the 16th.

SHS-J got got the lead back in the 60th but conceded two goals in the last two minutes. Romar Canoay scored from a free kick while John Shade Panisan scored a minute later for Sta. Rita’s comeback win.

A penalty kick in the dying minutes saved FCIC from defeat as it managed a 1-all decision against Queen City United (QCU) in the men's open division of the 10th National Interclub Football Cup yesterday at the University of San Carlos – Technological Center (USC-TC) field in Talamban, Cebu City.

QCU had a 1-0 advantage at halftime behind a goal by Rene Menchavez in the 34th minute.

A foul committed by QCU’s Jack Reston resulted into a yellow card and gifted FCIC with a penalty kick which was put home by Toto Gimpisao for a 1-1 score with just a few minutes left.

FCIC faces USC in this afternoon's first match of the division, while QCU will have a chance to rest as their next match is set tomorrow.

In the second match yesterday, Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) champions University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) blanked Count FC, 7-0, to tally their second win.

Robert Mamac and Adrian Mejaran scattered five goals between them to hand USJR a 5-0 advantage going into halftime.

In the second half, USJR continued to find holes in Count FC's defense and added two more goals to hand Count FC their fifth loss in as many games.

USJR will have a chance to top the division when they face division leader Doraemon in a much anticipated match this afternoon and against QCU tomorrow.

In the 17-Under division, Don Bosco Technological Center (DBTC) blanked Danao, 15-0, to share the lead with defending champions Abellana National School (ANS)-Pomeroy in their bracket with two wins apiece.

The visiting Sta. Rita team of San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, on the other hand, posted their first win in the tournament after edging Sacred Heart School-Ateneo De Cebu (SHS-ADC), 3-2, in the second match.

In the 14-Under over at the San Roque football field in Mandaue City, MTI routed Blessed John, 3-0.

The division is left with seven teams contesting after Paref Springdale pulled out from the tournament.

Coach Mario ceniza said he had to withdraw his 14-Under entry because of lack of players.

“Some of my players are still on vacation, while the rest are part of the ongoing training camp of the RP Under-14,” he said.

In the 38 Above division, defending champions San Roque Football Club (SRFC) clinched their second win of the tournament after edging Cebu Amateur Football Club's (CAFC) QCU, 2-1. The Erco outsmarted Hiroshi, 3-1, in the other 38-Above match.

Cebu Football Tournament: NCR wins ECCP Soccer Cup 2010

NCR's patience and hard work in European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP) Soccer Cup has finally paid off.

After falling short in the first three editions of the event, NCR finally bagged the Men's Open title in the fourth season last Sunday at the Cebu International School football pitch.

NCR had an unbeaten streak and crushed Convergys in the finals, 4-0, for their title.

Noel Villagonzalo, Michael Pacana and Lemar Baunsit scored a goal a piece for a commanding 3-0 lead in the first half, while Ryan Altamera added the icing on the cake with a strike in the second half for a 4-0 finish.

NCR dominated the elimination round Group A, beating former titleholders Tsuneishi, 1-0; last year's second runner-up Sykes, 2-1; Streams, 1-0; and Teletech, 1-0.

In the quarterfinals, NCR met and beat Sykes again, 2-1, and blanked Tsuneishi, 2-0, in the semis.

a. Only employees of the member organization/company may be fielded as players (probationary for at least three months, regular, contractual, and on-the-job trainees). For contractual and OJTs, they should have stayed in the company for at least three months already prior to the tournament.
b. Sons and daughters of the owner/CEO (or its equivalent) shall be allowed to join the team.
c. Board of Directors of the company (who may not be employees)
4. Submit team registration/line-up form on set deadline (it must be filled-out completely including the waiver).
5. Full payment of registration fee on set deadline.
6. The team attends the opening day ceremony.
7. Teams must have uniforms with proper football gears.
8. The team must be in the venue before the first game of the day (even if their scheduled game is later in the day). The organizer reserves the right to adjust schedules on the tournament day itself as the need arises.

Basic Ground Rules:

1. The tournament is 7 aside including the goal keeper.
2. Playing time for the elimination round will be 20 minutes (2 x 10 minutes). Playing time divided into halves (but no break).
3. Winner gets three points; in a draw both teams get one point. Loser gets zero points.
4. The top two teams of each group will qualify to advance to the Semi-Finals. This will be determined by the following order:
a. Total points accumulated after all elimination games have been played
b. By goal difference
c. By most goals scored
d. By the direct result of the game between the teams in tie
e. By penalty shoot out (sudden death)
5. If still a tie, additional kickers will be drawn from the bench of registered players
6. The Semi-Finals and Finals will be played with 2 x 10 minutes, with extra time of 2 minutes extra time. If the results still end in a draw, the winner will be determined by penalty shoot (first with 3 kickers from the 7 already on the field, if still a tie we will have a sudden death shoot out).
7. One of the 7 players must be clearly identified as the team captain. He/she will receive a red arm band from the events management distinguishing him/her as the team captain.
8. Teams with lacking players in the field at the start of play when the referee whistles to begin the game shall have forfeited the game.
9. Any team that arrives late will forfeit the game by 2:0, meaning 2 goals and 2 points will be given to the opponent. If both teams arrive late, no goals or points will be given and no game will be played.
10. Open or unlimited substitution is permitted. The referee in-charge must be informed prior to the player exchange. Substitutions may only be allowed when the ball is not in play. A new player can only enter from the center line when the substituted player has already left the field. The referee is entitled to prohibit substitution if he feels substitution is being used as a tactic to waste time.
11. The referee’s decision is final. Only the team captain may talk to the referee.
12. There is no offside.
13. Players may pass back to their goalkeepers (picked by hand).
14. During free kicks and corner kicks and kick-ins, defending players must keep a 4 meter distance.
15. There shall be no throw-ins, just kick-ins. Goals can be scored from a kick-in.
16. Goals can be scored straight from a kick-off and kick-ins.
17. Goal-kick-first-bounce must not exceed the half-way line
18. The first bounce coming from a goalie’s throw must not exceed the half-way line.
19. There is no need for a whistle from the referee to execute a corner kick.
20. A few words on Fair Play: It is the team captain’s responsibility to ensure that ALL team members enjoy and participate in the games and are not left out or run over by hyper fellow team members because of a lesser ability to play soccer. It is also the team captain’s and everybody’s individual responsibility to conduct a fair and respectful game. Swearing, staring and arguing and sign language are uncalled for.
The ECCP Soccer Cup is a FUN CUP, which should be enjoyed by all participants. It is the team captain’s responsibility that no player leaves this event frustrated. Most of the participants are playing soccer for the first time in their lives. Thos who have more playing experience should especially keep FAIR PLAY in mind.
21. Team Warnings:
a. Teams deemed by the referees as not performing according to the spirit of FAIR PLAY will be given a warning though the respective team captain.
b. On a per game basis, individual fouls will be counted cumulatively as team fouls. Teams accumulating four (4) team fouls in a game will be given a warning through the respective team captain.
c. Teams will be allowed up to only 2 warnings for non-compliance of the FAIR PLAY spirit.
d. The necessity to warn a 3rd time will lead to a yellow card for the team. Two yellow cards will lead to a disqualification of the entire team for the remainder of the Soccer Cup.
22. A player receiving a red card will be suspended for the next game and for serious offenses possibly for the remainder of the ECCP Soccer Cup.
23. Respect for the tournament, the rules, and the officials are necessary for order and the smooth-running of the games. Any form of non-cooperation, non-compliance, rude behavior, and/or aggression shall be strictly dealt with. The organizers will reserve the right to throw out an individual, a player, a coach, and/or a team if they manifest such behavior.
24. For the rest, FIFA rules shall be applied.
25. For any controversy, the organizers will deliberate on the issue with objectivity and fairness. Once all sides are weighed, the decision of the organizers shall be respected, followed and final. Any incident not covered in the above points will be discussed and decided by the organizing committee, together with 2 referees and one representative from each team.

Protests
1. Protest on player eligibility shall be entertained after the submission and screening of registration forms/line-ups; however, the burden of proof shall be on the one protesting before organizer will deliberate on it. Only the official representative of the team can make that protest official.
2. A player in question cannot play until he has validated his eligibility.
3. Protest on technicalities shall be considered and deliberated upon by the organizers during the tournament date. Only the coach can verbally make the protest to the organizer.
4. Protest on judgment calls of the officials shall not be entertained.
5. A team that walks out of a game shall be disqualified from the tournament automatically. A game under protest should be finished.

Others
1. If there is any concern with players’ conduct outside the game of play but within the duration of the tournament and within tournament grounds, the concerns must be first addressed to the players’ coach and/or the organizers themselves. Nobody is allowed to directly deal with players other than their own coaches and the organizers themselves. Violators of this norm shall be sent-off from the tournament.
2. If there is any concern with coaches’ conduct outside the game of play but within the duration of the tournament and within tournament grounds, the concerns must be first addressed to the immediate head of the coach and/or the organizers themselves. Nobody is allowed to directly deal coaches other than their own immediate superior and the organizers themselves. Violators of this norm shall be sent-off from the tournament.
3. If there is any concern with spectators’ conduct within or outside the game of play but within the duration of the tournament and within tournament grounds, the concerns must be first addressed to the organizers themselves. Nobody is allowed to directly deal with spectators other than the organizers themselves. Violators of this norm shall be sent-off from the tournament.
4. Undesirable conduct of spectator/s shall be dealt with immediate expulsion from the tournament grounds. Furthermore, if such spectators are closely associated with particular teams, there shall also be serious repercussions on those particular teams they are closely associated with. The nature of these repercussions will largely depend on establishment of the close association and the nature of the undesirable misconduct of the spectator/s. It may lead to a life-time ban of the teams in question from all succeeding tournaments.
5. If a team does not finish (play) all their games in the tournament, the whole team, the individual players and the coach/s will be banned for the next tournament/s. The games they have played before they abandoned the tournament will be counted as loss with 2-0 score line awarded for the opposing team.

Some Reminders:

1. Bringing of company banner is encouraged.
2. The team/company may get an external coach who may not be an employee of the company.
3. Each Team Captain is in charge of his team’s warm up. Please make sure your team arrives early enough to warm up before the games start. It is very essential so please make sure of this!
4. Companies with more than 1 team are NOT allowed to interchange their players within the teams. Please be fair about this. Should we find out that it has been done both teams will be disqualified.
5. Food and liquids will be sold in the venue.
6. Water will be made available - free of charge. There will be water dispensers around the area of the field. Please advise your team to bring water bottles for filling. It would be wise to put your name on your water bottle. Please advise your player to drink PLENTY of water! It is essential to last the day!
7. The Team captains will be held responsible for the trash management of their team. Trash bags will be set up in every tent. Please make use of them and when they are full. You may ask for a new one from the ECCP team. When the event finishes, it will be the team captains’ responsibility to do a last trash check.
8. An ambulance, nurse and medics will be on standby during the day. Please be advised that the transportation to the hospital and the required treatment is care of each player/company. Please advise your players to bring their health cards/ information.
9. We are playing rain or shine. Please advise your players to bring sufficient paraphernalia to change, dry and keep warm & dry. Every player should have extra socks, extra t-shirts, extra shorts, a raincoat, and at least one towel. Bring some umbrellas as well. It will either be a very long HOT day or a very long hot and wet day.
10. Last but NOT Least, and please remind ALL players, this is a FUN CUP. This soccer cup is supposed to be fun for ALL players.
The referees and ECCP will be keeping a strict eye on :
Fair play
The Ladies in the game—PLAYING!
We do NOT want to see pushing, kicking, bullying or anything along that line. The referees will not hesitate to give out yellow or even red cards. We are VERY serious about this! The team captain will be warned and made responsible if his team is not playing fair. As a last resort, we will not hesitate to suspend players or teams.
11. The participation is at the own risk of the company. The event management is not liable for any injuries or lost items. The participating companies should cover their own insurance and medical assistance at cost.

Cebu Football Clinic: April 12 to May 14

Aspiring Cebu football players will get a chance to hone their talents thanks to Subangdaku FC (SFC) as they hold a Cebu Football clinic this coming April 12 to May 14 at the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) football field in Lahug.

The clinic is open to boys and girls ages 6 to 17, and includes membership to the club, a certificate and an SFC jersey. Training sessions will be on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Two of the top coaches in Cebu City, Eleazar Toledo and Oliver Colina, will spearhead the 15-session clinic. Toledo and Colina are both licensed by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).

Subangdaku FC is one of only four clubs that is registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which is required by the AFC.

Proceeds of the Cebu Football clinic will help fund the training of SFC’s 10 sponsored kids.

Sykes, Aegis PS defend crowns

SYKES A and Aegis People Support defended their titles with aplomb as they repeated as champions in the men's and women's divisions, respectively, of the Inter-BPO Football Tournament held Sunday at the San Roque Parish football field in Mandaue City.

Sykes defeated first-time participants Stream while Teletech B finished in third place.

Powering the defense of Sykes was Best Goalkeeper awardee Ace Mangohid and Most Valuable Player winner Ren Colina.

Dexter Arrojado took the Top Goal Scorer award after he scored eight goals in the one-day tournament.

Meanwhile, on the distaff side, Aegis bested Convergys behind the offense-defense attack of Top Goal Scorer Chinee Lim and Best Goalkeeper winner Kristine Bas.

The star of the show though, was Nenette Espiritu, who took home the MVP award.

The BPO companies will take turns hosting the Inter-BPO tournaments every quarter and hope that this will encourage more football enthusiasts to form teams within their companies. These festivals are organized in hopes of promoting wellness, sportsmanship and teamwork.

Inter-BPO football on March 7

THE 2nd Inter-BPO Football Festival kicks off this Sunday at the San Roque football grounds.

However, unlike the Thirsty Football Cup and the Cebu International School Friendship Cup, this competition is is exclusive for the BPO industries.

The tournament has only two divisions, the Men’s and Women’s categories.

The Men’s class offers nine-a-side contests and is composed of 12 teams – Convergys A, Convergys B, Teletek A, Teletek B, Tsuneishi, Stream, NCR, Wipro, Calltek, Lexmark, 1&1 and defending champios Sykes. The Women’s division will have Convergys, Sykes, Wipro and last year’s winner Aegis.

The games will start at 7 a.m. and the awarding ceremonies will be at 8 p.m. at the Sports Exchange Bar and Grill.

The tournament is sponsored by Sports Exchange Bar and Grill, Waterfresh, Noise Garage and Monster Radio BT 105.9.

What Cebu Football needs: United Football League

While blog hopping yesterday, I came across United Football League (UFL). This Manila-based Philippine Football League was organized by Football Allianace , a group of Philippine football afficionados whose goals include establish a Philippine league with Corporate backing, promote Philippine Football through a very thorough media campaign and to qualify for AFC .

United Football League started last October 25, 2009 and is currently on-going. There are 16 teams in this league, twice more that FPL - a Philippine Football Federation (PFF) initiated league. UFL also boasts of something most organizers tend to neglect, a good information system. Football Alliance website contains news, team bios, game fixtures, schedules, results and standings. Check out the Football Alliance website to know more about this on-going Philippine Football League.

I hope that the big "boys" of Cebu Football would forget about their politicking and think about what football really is. And that for the love of the game, they all work together and perhaps football players all over Visayas and Mindanao can have a league similar to United Football League.

Here is something for Cebu Football players and enthusiasts to look forward in 2010 - the 4th ECCP Soccer Cup. ECCP is probably one of the best, if not the best, football tournament organizers in Cebu. Now, according to a source, the 4th ECCP Soccer Cup in Cebu will happen in the first quarter of 2010.

Accordingly, ECCP is still in the process of getting sponsors and securing the venue. There is a possibility that this Cebu Football tournament will be held in Sacred Heart School of Jesuit Society in Mandaue. The organizational meeting is yet to be set. So for inquiries about this upcoming tournament, contact ECCP@Work.

3rd ECCP Soccer Cup in Cebu

Another regular tournament held in Cebu is organized by the European Chamber of the Philippines (ECCP). Here is an archived news about this popular Cebu Football tournament.

ECCP held its 3rd Soccer Cup this Sunday, June 7, 2009, at the Cebu International School Football Field. This seven-a-side tournament featured twenty teams coming from the IT/BPO, Manufacturing, Furniture sectors from member companies of ECCP and invited non-members.

The Gustavian won as champion for the 3rd soccer up, with MK Anderson as first runner-up and Sykes as 2nd runner-up.

The event opened at 7:30 am with the Mr. and Ms. Fitness Contest and the games officially started at 8 am. Exhibition games were also done during the lunch break.
The main goal of the event was to promote interaction and bridge the network among companies. This event was in cooperation with the Mandaue JCI and was sponsored by Globe, Fitness First and the Gustavian.

Sykes, Aegis top football festival

SYKES and Aegis People Support ruled the inaugural Home Sweet Home 9-a-side Inter Corporate Football Festival at the San Roque Parish football field last Oct. 25.

Sykes outlasted Tsunieshi via shootout to top the nine-team men’s division, while Aegis People Support got past Convergys in the women’s final.

The one-day tournament, organized to give football enthusiasts who are already working a chance to compete in a relatively level playing field, was a huge success and the participants are already wishing another group will hold an inter-call center football tournament.

Despite playing with only eight men in the finals of the nine-a-side event, Sykes managed to hold on to a 0-0 draw in regulation before prevailing, 3-2, in the shootout.

It was the same story in the battle for third place as Bracket B second placer dumped Convergys, 3-2.

In the women’s final, veteran Doris Toledo scored the only goal for Aegis People Support to bag the trophy.

Sykes topped Group B and defeated Lexmark, 2-1, in the quarterfinals before dumping Group A No. 1 team Teletech A, 2-0, in the semis.

On the other hand, Tsunieshi finished second in Group B and beat Group A No. 3, NCR, 1-0, in the quarterfinals and Convergys, 1-0, in the semis.

Teletech A outlasted sister team Telech B, which finished No. 4 in Group B, 2-1, in the quarterfinals.

Convergys earned a seat to the semifinals after upsetting Group A No. 2 Aegis People Support, 1-0, in the quarterfinals.

WiPro finished at fifth in Group A and did not make it to the quarterfinals.

Weekend warriors, rejoice! Another tournament is here for you - the 1st Home Sweet Home Spa Inter-Corp Tournament. This one-day tournament is designed for working soccer players and enthusiasts to enjoy this "unrecognized" popular sport in the Philippines.

These teams also join open competitions organized by other groups but usually fare badly when they face the more established clubs or school-based teams.
Since they want to play in a more level playing field, football players from the competiting companies have decided to organize themselves and hold a tournament for “weekend” warriors.

Cebu Football Revisited

Hi Friends.

Some people say that Philippine Football no longer exists. Some people would say that the sport is not popular. Cebu Football will not try to discredit those claims just with words. This site will do its best to show how football is very much alive in the Philippines - starting in Cebu.

If not for the demise of PinoySoccer.com, this would have been an easy task. Cebu Football Association tried blogging once but is no longer updated amidst all the politics behind the scenes. There are several "issues" behind this Cebu Football site. Which leaves us with one credible source, check out this Cebu Football site by a Sun Star writer.
